Jiang Feiran

Lecturer, Junior Research Fellow

JIANG Feiran is a writer and curator. She holds a PhD in Curatorial Studies from the Institute of Contemporary Art and Social Thoughts (ICAST) where she currently serves as a Lecturer and Research Fellow. Before that, she graduated from the MFA program in film department at the University of Wisconsin and worked as an independent artist. Her practice and research encompass contemporary art criticism and curatorial studies, and at ICAST she leads teaching and research in exhibition history, curatorial theories, and critical writing.

Jiang has curated a number of exhibitions, recent curatorial projects including: The Reliable, the Painting Manual (2025, Hangzhou, Positive Art Research Center); The Doorway to All Essences (2025, Hangzhou , Zhejiang Art Museum); Just One Day (2024, Xiamen, Jimei × Arles 2024); Endless Mountains, Spanning Seas—An Exhibition of Art and the Tang Poetry (2024, Osaka, Osaka Culturarium at Tempozan, Japan); Cai Dongdong: Miss the Target (2023, Beijing, Light Society); Unnamed River (2022, Beijing, Three Shadows Photography Art Center; 2022, Shanghai, ZiWU). As a researcher at ICAST, Jiang has also chief-convened a series of important academic forums, including the international symposium Panel 21: Intermission: Curatorial Studies/Education? (2024, Hangzhou, China Academy of Art); Seeds Project – Towards the Mountain (2023, Hangzhou, CAA × TAJ); Contemporary Chinese Art in the Process of (De)Globalization (2023, Hangzhou, ICAST × FAI).

Jiang Feiran was the winner of the Jimei × Arles Curatorial Award for Photography and Moving Image in 2021 and was the finalist of the 8th International Awards for Art Criticism in 2022. As a curator and writer, Jiang was the invited editor for the online art magazine UNArt (Issue 2, 2020). She is a regular contributor and columnist to art media ARTDBL, and her articles have appeared widely in Decades, The Thinker, Artforum, ArtReview, ARTDBL, Leap, Art-Ba-Ba, Jiazazhi, The Art Journal, Artnet, Art Observation and China Photography, etc. Jiang’s writings has been included in publications such as A Polyphonic World (CITIC Press, 2023); A Selection of Outstanding Entries from the Eighth International Awards for Art Criticism (CITIC Press, 2023); Netizen 21: Beyond Personal Account (CAA Press, 2021).
