Introduction

‘Internal Turmoil’ comes from the ‘multi-time’ concept of contemporary art, and has become an important way for us to understand China and its place in the 21st century world. Today, art is on the one hand removing its concrete sense of time and space in its self-orientalization. On the other, it is due to the multiple time conflicts caused by ‘Internal Turmoil’. The embarrassment of this lies in the fact that in the end, external time and tools are needed. ‘Holes’ are the spaces that have been evacuated after space expansion and contraction. Like bread or the sponge, a ‘hole’ is the space left over after a struggle of time. Space has its merits, in fact, it’s omnipotent. It is also the basic structure of space, rather than a continuous classical landscape or single plane of time. The motive to introduce ‘holes’ and ‘multiple planes of time’ into our field of observation is to see if new knowledge can be produced in that space.
