Chen Heng

Chen Heng holds a PhD in Literary Studies from Universiteit Gent, an MA in Irish Literature and Drama from University College Dublin, and a BA in Law from Shanghai International Studies University. Originally from Zhejiang, he was born in Xinjiang and has studied in Shanghai, Ireland, the UK and Belgium. Turning from law to literature, his MA thesis topic was Irish contemporary Catholic novelist, poet and playwright Aidan Mathews. His doctoral topic was Lu Xun’s pursuit of ‘different times’ and ‘different people’, exploring Lu Xun’s integration of his country’s historical narrative and foreign culture. He has a long standing interest in the issues of literary modernity and the influence of religious ideas on literary writing. His current research interests include English modernist literature, Irish contemporary literature, historical theory, the relationship between Lu Xun and Dutch literature, and the history of modern Chinese thought.
