Chen Runhua was born in Guizhou Province in 1972. From 1990, he was a scholar  of Neo-Confucianism at the department of Geology, Sun Yat-sen University.graduating in 1997. He has an MA in  Law from  the School of Law and Business, Shanghai Normal University and a PhD in literature from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Fudan University. He taught at the University of Science and Technology Shanghai, and from 2006-2008, was a postdoctoral fellow in classical political philosophy at the Department of National Politics, Fudan University. Between 2008-2017, he was a postdoctoral fellow and full-time researcher at the Institute of Advanced Social Sciences, Fudan University.
