Introduction

The practice of many contemporary artists shows that art should intervene in reality,  constantly negotiating and breaking the boundaries between artistic perception and social reality.  Interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration between artists, architects, philosophers, filmmakers and social workers is becoming increasingly key. This lecture will explain how the ‘collective’ functions as a method and position today in the context of East Asia, and discuss how the artist’s ‘actor-network theory’ breaks down institutionalized pitfalls of class, culture, and ideology.
