Introduction

The work of the media is both to build new structures and values, and to dissolve and melt ‘solid objects’. It is both like running water and fungus, it has a definite form, but also exists in a state of movement and growth. The media industry often uses the term ‘doing media’ to describe its work. ‘Doing’ means creating, experimenting, shaping and subverting. Media work is not just about transmission  and power, interviews and editorials, it can even be just the opposite. Its malleability is precisely its life force. The media always exists within a changing reality, it needs to be guerrilla, needs to find its own stronghold within the flow. The media does not  so much construct itself as, through continuous connection, form temporary communities able to resist control and censure. This lecture will take the work of  ARTDBL as an example to introduce ‘reverse action’ in media, self-construction, and the practical landscape presented based on the illusion of reality.
