Introduction

Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990) was one of Poland’s most important and  influential  artists. His paintings won awards such as the ‘Rembrandt Prize’ and in his lifetime he participated in Documenta, Sydney Biennale and Venice Biennale. He was also the first Polish artist to create ‘happenings’ and expanded the boundaries of drama with unique modeling methods,  expressing his thoughts on war, life and death through puppetry. His  famous ‘Theater of Death’ series showcased personal memories of the turbulent war years.
