Image vs Spectacle: The Political Economy of Image and Sound was a seminar and workshop organized by Gao Shiming at China Academy of Art, featuring keynote speeches by Chen Chieh-jen, Lin Chiwei, Cheng Hui-hua, and others.

The workshop adopted the theme of ‘re-examining the necessary relationship between image and sound in the society of the spectacle’ as a guiding thread, aiming to uncover, organize, and reveal modes of resistance and active organizing . This extended into a series of discussions on performativity within the political, and the economic relationships between image and sound. Scholars and artists such as Lu Xinghua, Chen Jia-ying, Qiu Zhijie, Lin Chiwei, Gao Shiqiang, and Zheng Bo, along with students from various studios and research institutes actively participated in the discussions.
